This is it runners! Starting tomorrow I begin the first week of my 50K training plan. And what’s great is it will actually feel quite normal. And that’s because I’ve been adding miles to my weeks for the last 9 weeks with a PRE-50K training plan.
But before I tell you all about the fun miles ahead of us, I have to share with you 3 new things that I totally love right now! And they have nothing to do with running. Or maybe they do…
1. Ever heard of the Instant Pot?
Ha! Everyone has!! This sweet pressure cooker/crockpot/deep saute pot does everything in a fraction of the time! I got it for Christmas and LOVE IT! At first I was afraid of it. But after watching a ton of YouTube videos on how to use it and make different recipes, I was hooked!
We have tried rice and beans, chicken, fish and a whole meatloaf dinner in this wonderful cooking device. Here are a bunch of the recipes I tried already and some I’m planning on trying in the near future.
The Hubs and I have gone for a run and come home to throw everything in our Instant Pot to cook while we clean up. And what’s great is we still eat at a normal time! So I guess it is a good runner’s device.
2. Refrigerator Oatmeal!
I tend to hit the snooze 3 or 4 times every morning which means I don’t leave a lot of time to make breakfast. But I found my way around it–Refrigerator Oatmeal! I make 2 or 3 jars at a time and then I have breakfast at work while checking my email!
Check out my Pinterest Breakfast Board! A ton of the recipes are right there! It’s loaded with vitamins, fiber and calcium for strong bones. I guess this is good for runners too!
A Guilt-Free Salad Dressing!
Almost all of our dinners include a great, big salad!!! And I just found an amazing dressing made with Greek yogurt that’s delicious and nutritious! Tiffany over at Creme de la Crumb made this guilt-free Creamy Honey Mustard Salad Dressing that is perfect for a fast evening salad!
Its base is Greek yogurt which makes it perfect for an after-run recovery meal. Plus it taste SO GOOD.
Back to Running!
So now I’m going to spend the next 24 weeks building up my miles for the Christmas in July race!

Time to Build Up the Miles with a 50k Training Plan!
Building up our miles slowly won’t feel so bad with this training plan for 2 reasons:
1. I’ve added lots of other types of movement. Like I said in this post, I really want to add more cross-training this year. And I picked my favorites–yoga and indoor bike rides.
2. Work day run are set in time and not miles. That way my focus is being on my feet and moving forward and not speed and getting to the next mile. Plus I know I cannot run 8, 9 or 10 miles after a full day of work. I have other people I need to see some evenings!
It will be interesting to see how that feels. I’ve always had mile goals on my training plans. So thinking that I get to turn around in 25-30 minutes will be kind of freeing for me.
Let me know what you think!
